Darren Jared Carandang Cruz sentenced to 10 years for kidnapping

March 08, 2021- Tamuning, Guam- Darren Jared Carandang Cruz will spend 10 years in prison for kidnapping a woman and man in 2016.
The defendant pleaded guilty to two counts of kidnapping as a second degree felony, burglary as a third degree felony, two counts of terrorizing as a third degree felony, and assault as a misdemeanor. Prosecution argued for a 25-year sentence with all but 20 suspended at the sentencing hearing, which lasted several days. After hearing arguments, Judge Gutierrez sentenced Cruz to 14 years imprisonment, with all but 10 years suspended and credit for time served.

“While we are disappointed that the defendant was not sentenced to the term of incarceration that the government recommended, we do appreciate the thoughtful consideration that was given to this matter by the Court,” said Assistant Deputy Attorney General for Prosecution David Rivera.
