Court sentences John Liauw to 6 months jail time for molesting minor

November 15, 2019, Tamuning, Guam- John Liauw was sentenced to a 6-month prison term yesterday afternoon. Liauw entered into a plea agreement for two counts of fourth-degree criminal sexual conduct as a misdemeanor earlier this year after forcing himself on a minor under the age of 16.

Prosecution argued for the maximum sentence of two years, but the court instead sentenced Liauw to 6 months incarceration, stating that although Liauw abused his position of trust and caused emotional harm to the victim, Liauw had no criminal record and was a productive member of society.

“Although we did not receive the sentence we wanted, his incarceration shows that nobody is above the law.  Molesting a minor child is a crime that warrants punishment, regardless of what degrees you hold or what businesses you own,” said Prosecuting Attorney Christine Tenorio.
