Court sentences Haas to 3 years in jail for having sex with 13 year-old he met online

November 04, 2021- Tamuning, Guam- John Carlos Daniel Haas was sentenced today to eight years with all but three years suspended by Judge Alberto C. Lamorena III. Prosecution argued for the full eight-year term, the maximum range under the plea agreement.

The 24 year-old pleaded guilty in April to Third Degree Criminal Sexual Conduct as a Second Degree Felony after admitting he had sex with a minor he had met online. According to documents, he told authorities he thought the victim was of-age.

“Young people have an obligation to themselves and each other to be careful in this age of technology. Swiping right is a simple action, but simple actions can still be wrong and lead to a lifetime of emotional trauma. This case will be an example to others that social media and technology can sometimes lead young people into making bad decisions and choices,” said Prosecuting Attorney Sean Brown.

The victim and her family were consulted throughout the process and provided input on the terms of the plea agreement.
