AG Camacho Announces $1.6M Settlement Payment; Trust Fund Balance Now $2.6M

October 24, 2022- Tamuning, Guam- Attorney General Leevin T. Camacho has announced that a $1,638,362.16 settlement payment has been received from the opioid manufacturer Johnson & Johnson. This payment brings the total balance held in the opioid trust account to over $2.6M. The opioid settlements represent the largest non-tobacco settlement ever recovered by the Office of the Attorney General.

“We will build safer communities by investing these funds in crime prevention programs and resources that help those struggling with addiction, substance abuse, and mental health issues,” said AG Camacho.

Last week, the Opioid Recovery Advisory Council (ORAC) met to discuss the process for how the funds will be awarded. The proposal includes the publication of a notice of availability of funds and an open application period for any organizations interested in substance abuse prevention and treatment programs. The ORAC also discussed legislation that would expand access to Naloxone, a life-saving medication, to first responders, law enforcement, and community organizations.
